The thief ant is not a single species of ant but a group of closely related ones. It travels in groups throughout most of the United States and preys on fire ant queens.

Workers are generally 1/32 of an inch long and yellow-brown in color.

Scientific name: Solenopsis molesta Subfamily: Myrmicinae
