This gourami is similar to the Indian Gourami / Colisa fasciata. But the bands on the body are narrower and more numerous.

- Size: 8cm
- Diet: Omnivorous; Small Live or Frozen foods, Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp and Tubifex. Dried foods: Flakes, pellets and sticks.
- Tank Level: All
- Temperament: Peaceful
- Minimum number: A pair
- Temperature: 23-28 degrees
- Breeding: The parents build a bubblenest to protect their eggs and Fry from predators.

The Thick-Lipped Gourami is often cross-bred with the Indian Gourami and the Dwarf Gourami to produce man-made hydrids.
They produce hydrids to make new colours, these colours include: gold, red and green. The red hydrid is called The Robin Gourami.
