From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Thebogusman! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic Acid (talk) 06:37, August 31, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Beatles 1969.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Beatles 1969.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Arniep 19:33, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Howard_Hawks.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Howard_Hawks.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 19:29, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject North Dakota

Hi! you might be interested in helping Wikiproject North Dakota off the drawing board. --AlexWCovington (talk) 22:32, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject North Dakota is official! Sort of. Lot of cleanup needed on the project page and plenty of work to do making a decent to-do list, etc. etc., but it all starts somewhere. Thanks for all your help! --AlexWCovington (talk) 05:36, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PSH

We don't know if it comes from a press kit or not. I don't think it'll be a problem for now, but i'll look around to find a another pic. Crumbsucker 13:27, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Beatles 1969.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Beatles 1969.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Kubrick 70s.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kubrick 70s.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 13:43, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Change to Common.css

Per recent discussions, the way in which Persondata is viewed by Wikipedia editors has changed. In order to continue viewing Persondata in Wikipedia articles, please edit your user CSS file to display table.persondata rather than table.metadata. More specific instructions can be found on the Persondata page. --ShakingSpirittalk on behalf of Kaldari 02:08, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Wire

I noticed you changed the large font demarcations back into subheaders in the themes section of The Wire (TV series). I am not sure if you are aware that these were actually left this way for a reason - in peer review and FAC the table of contents of the article was criticised as being too long and the short subsections in themes were criticised. Many felt that being a single paragraph these sections did not warrant their own subheading/section in the table of contents - hence the decision to use a demarcation instead of a true subheading. I believe that the article must remain true to edits made in order to garner support for it's featured article status so I have changed the themes section back to the consensus style.--Opark 77 10:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Rolling Stone logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Rolling Stone logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] AfD nomination of List of songs used in The Sopranos end credits

An editor has nominated List of songs used in The Sopranos end credits, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of songs used in The Sopranos end credits and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] The Sopranos music

Hey, I'm actually using the music listing on the official HBO site for example here's a link to an episode [1]. I'm also using iTunes to help me interpret the correct song used at the end, although most of them I know already :) Hope that helps! Sfufan2005 22:07, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Music on the Sopranos

Hey, I recently came across your article regarding the use of music in The Sopranos. I honestly think, with a little more work and a review by some other editors, it could become a featured list. It is well sourced and informative, and also fairly broad in its coverage, and a definite candidate. As the creator of the list and primary editor I was wondering what you thought on the issue? Qjuad 08:11, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

There are some editors who frequently work on Sopranos and television related articles, I'll ask their opinion. Dropping a note on the discussion page of the list itself could help as well. Qjuad 00:19, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of The Wire episodes

Noting that you edited List of The Wire episodes within the last few months I wonder if you have an opinion about the use of screenshots in this article and would welcome your opinion here if you have time.--Opark 77 22:47, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
