[edit] Chess openings

I notice you have recently created a large number of articles about chess openings. I'm unsure as to whether these are notable enough to have their own article and feel they might be better merged into List of chess openings. It might be worth discussing this with other editors on Wikipedia:WikiProject Chess.

I also note that your user name suggests that you are linked with the website you have put in the external links section of each article. I would suggest you read the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest guideline and ensure that any links you add are not merely to promote your own website and do add to the article. See Wikipedia:External links for the guidelines as to what links are appropriate. Adambro 20:26, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

For the benefit of any other editors with reference to this issue, Theandrewdotcom has created 200 "ECO xyz" articles between the 4th March and today. According to the List of chess openings there are 500 such codes. Adambro 20:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I have started a discussion of this issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chess#ECO chess openings. Adambro 20:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

Your username has been blocked indefinitely because it may be rude or inflammatory, unnecessarily long/confusing, too similar to an existing user, contains the name of an organization or website, contains the word Wikipedia or the name of any other Wikimedia Foundation project, or is otherwise inappropriate (see our blocking and username policies for more information).

You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under a more appropriate username. Wikipedia:Username policy provides guidance on selecting an appropriate username. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account.

You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia under an inappropriate username. If you would like to discuss the block, you may appeal on your talk page or email the administrator who blocked you. Due to Wikipedia's mechanism for enforcing name changes, your IP address may be temporarily blocked. Unless you have also been engaging in vandalism or impersonation of another user, we will remove that block as soon as possible.

If you want to keep the contributions from your old account for your new username, please follow these directions:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} to your user talk page. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked.
  3. You will have 24 hours after the unblock to file a request on Wikipedia:Changing username before you may be re-blocked. Note that this can only be done before you create the new one. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username. In many cases (especially if your account has few or no edits), it is a lot easier to create a new account. [edit] Your e-mail

In reply to your e-mail:

Sandstein, Apparently as an administrator you have blocked me, from reading the different postings I see how some confusion could be made.

I was creating many pages for the chess ECO codes. I thought that there was reasoning to create an individual page for each ECO code. Some codes can have a brief summary, where others could have pages and pages of text. My idea was to create all of the initial pages and hope that other people would return and give their input on them and expand them.

I have a database of these codes that I have assembled over the years, and because of the large number of them, created an excel file that made it easy for me to cut and paste. This is why all of the pages looked very similar. As far as being a 'bot' nope, it was alot of cutting and pasting. Someone mentioned that I was promoting my website by creating links to it. I have a rather large database of around a million chess games on my website, and the links would link directly to lists of games that corresponded to this ECO code. This was information that would be almost impossible to put onto wikipedia's site.

Another statement was made that I was plugging my external site in hopes of getting traffic. My site is a personal site with a dozen or so hits a day. I dont make any money off of it, and the more people that go there, the more it costs me.

Before my posting I did post comments in a couple talk pages, with no responces.

You have made your decision as an 'administrator' here. I obviously dont agree. I see that my input is not welcome.

no, it is not about your edits. Read the above message again, please. It is just that user names that contain a web address are not allowed. Sandstein 06:46, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
