[edit] Art Institute image
Thanks for uploading Image:Artinstitute.JPG. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, – Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 17:28, Oct 22, 2004 (UTC)
Hi Lorax, if you can tell the community where the fair use images you upload came from, that would be helpful. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing whether the photographer meant for people to use his/her image freely, to promote the topic. -- user:zanimum

[edit] About the Music video project
Hey Lorax. My name is Alejandro Vesga and a while back I wanted to join the Music video project. But I found that there is no progress and no list of members of the project. Is it just you? Because if that's the case, maybe the project should be shut down and we can edit music video articles on our own. Also, there's a message on the talk page I think you should see.
I know Kevin and the Videoville project, and personally I think there is some valuable information there, but I wouldn't go as far as to make a migration. Anyway, drop me a line and we'll see what we can do.
[edit] Ted Stevens
Hi, could you provide a link citing Ted Stevens as NOT being a pro-choice politician? Thanks. Jarfingle 08:24, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not The Lorax, I just happened to be looking at their talk page by happinstance, but you might try: http://www.issues2000.org/states/AK_Abortion.htm NARAL gives Ted a 21% pro-choice rating.

[edit] Category:Pro-whaling nations
I think this information should be stored in a list instead. The issue is too marginal for most countries to justify a category. It also sets a bad precedent, and invites categories for countries that allow smoking in public buildings, countries that use the death penalty, and for number of other controversial issues. A list collects the same information without any turning the category system into a pillory. --Latebird 21:00, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] An Inconvenient Truth
An Inconvenient Truth has the semi-protection tag, but somehow anonymous users are still able to edit the page. How is this possible? —chair lunch dinner™ (talk) 03:58, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've contacted Admins to help with the problem. The lorax 04:23, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

- (I'm not the Lorax, but...) I think people sometimes fail to realize that only administrators can protect or semi-protect a page. The admin who "flips the protection switch" then edits in the appropriate template so we mere mortals can see what has been done, but the template has nothing to do with applying the actual protection itself. (Lorax: Please feel free to remove my comment here if you wish.)

[edit] Image:Monsterthickburger.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Monsterthickburger.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Daniel Case 07:00, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Inconvenienttruth.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Inconvenienttruth.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Melgibsonpublicitypic.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Melgibsonpublicitypic.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (→Netscott) 19:13, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

An image you uploaded, Image:Concordia.shield.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Kfeddumpedbytext.png
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Kfeddumpedbytext.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Snick.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Snick.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Thanks for uploading Image:Clayandkelly.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. [edit] Speedy deletion of Image:Aninconvenienttruth.jpg
A tag has been placed on Image:Aninconvenienttruth.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Berserkerz Crit 13:44, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
