[edit] Roses

I wish I could give you something like the beautiful roses I put on your sister's talk page, but I'm out of ideas. So grab a nice image, compliments of myself. Will (Take me down to the Paradise City) 22:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your Bookshelf

Hi The Halo! I was just poking around the Wikipedian Bookshelf and saw your entry. I'm also a great fan of existentialist literature, 19th (or early 20th) century Russian plays, Miller's "DOAS" and above all, James Joyce. If you haven't already, you might want to check out Joyce's "Portrait", for it's quite similar to "Catcher in the Rye" in some respects. Also, from one Chekhov fan to another, I would reccomend his "Cherry Orchard". I just wanted to drop you a line, as I was a a bit surprised to see another Wikipedian who selected quite a few of my favourite works of literature (this is especially surprising, as our tastes are all over the map in terms of genres). Cheers! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 04:31, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Questions from a friend

Hello Halo. I would just like to ask you how you are doing. I know that you have been through a lot of stress and I hope you are okay. Also, do you have any idea when Sergeant Snopake will be back on Wikipedia? She is a great editor and I hope that you can talk to her and get her back here as soon as possible. Thank you and have a nice day. P.S. I could not get the picture exactly how I wanted, so just mouse over it and you will see my "hidden message":D--Chili14 02:22, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I hope this is what you are doing.

Hello, Halo, and thank you for the support on my recent RfA. The final tally was 72/1/0, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I'll be tentative with the new buttons for a while, and certainly welcome any and all feedback on how I might be able to use them to help the project. [edit] Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award

Hi The Halo! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. So if you signed up to be a judge in spot 1 than you will get nominations 1-3. Pick your favorite one, and list it in the finalist section. After all 5 judges have chosen a finalist it's time to award them 1-10 points in the four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • Subpages: quality of subpages, talk pages.
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please see the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are confidential! Email Petros471 with your scores and final picks. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks.

May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 14:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Something to think about

Hey Halo, I was wondering, have you ever considered running for adminship? Everytime I've seen your contributions lately, I have to keep remining myself that your not an administrator; you are very well-versed in the ways of Wikipedia, and are level headed and friendly. I would love to nominate you, but wanted to see if you were interested first. Let me know, and if not now, I'll harass you in the future until you do. :) -- Natalya 00:33, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I have to second that Halo. I would be honored to either Nom or Co-Nom you. Æon Insane Ward 00:44, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

He doesn't say he wants to become one yet (his edits are 2700), and with all the stress he's had to cope with recently (and excellently, by the way), we really don't want to put it on him now. (by the way, Sharon got there first). Will (Take me down to the Paradise City) 01:39, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Pshh. Edit counts are overrated, and 2700 is more than I had when I became an admin (I think).  ;) I figured busyness would play into it, though, but wanted to make sure that we're behind him. And it looks like when he does want to run, he'll be well-supported already! -- Natalya 03:36, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I would like to remind everybody that unless I missed something, The Halo is a female and should therefore be referred to as such. Also, I wholeheartedly support Halo going out for the mop. With all she has been through (and may be currently going through), she would certainly know the ins and outs of Wikipedia. If/when she ever tries to run, she will have my support.--Chili14 05:48, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Wow! Thank you all so much :) It's amazing to hear editors that I admire so much say this. However, I am waiting, on the advise of a very wise and good friend, until I reach between the 3000 - 3500 edit mark. I try and make at least 50 edits a day, so, hopefully, I should be asking for the mop sometime early next month. And, Will's correct, Phaediel, and, in fact, Snopake, have already said that they're the ones co-nomming me (tho, that said, the more co-noms the better, imho ;) I am truely honoured that you've asked me, and overjoyed that I can count on your support when I do go for it :) Oh, and, I guess I should also add...I'm a man :) Thε Halo Θ 11:15, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
That's always good to clarify now and again. ;) Well, when you decide to, I look forward to writing a massively long support statement for you. -- Natalya 13:04, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I would be glad honoured to co-nominate The Halo. By the way, do you have to be an administrator to nominate or co- someone?$ΡЯΙNGεrαgђ (-¢|ε|Ŀ|T|-) 15:18, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I would be equally honoured if you would co-nom me Spring ;) And, no, you don't need to be an admin to nom someone (in fact, I nomed someone before I even had 1000 edits.) Thε Halo Θ 15:26, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Well then, people, what are we waiting for? (The only reason I wouldn't nominate you now is because I'm not quite sure how. I'll know after your nomination though!) —$ΡЯΙNGεrαgђ (-¢|ε|Ŀ|T|-) 15:32, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Because I'm waiting until I reach at least 3000 edits, just to make my chances of passing that little bit better:) Thε Halo Θ 15:36, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Only 303 edits to go! —$ΡЯΙNGεrαgђ (-¢|ε|Ŀ|T|-) 15:41, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
(Re-indent) Though I'm a tad late, I would like to pile on the supporting bandwagon. A fanstasmogorical user such as yourself certainly deserves and would make great use of it. Warmest regards, —Celestianpower háblame 22:32, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
I'll chip in with my support as well. If I don't see the announcement here when the RfA happens, feel free to buzz me at my talk page. --tjstrf 22:54, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your support on my recent Request for Adminship. The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns raised by the opposing !voters before running again. If you have any feedback for me, please don't hesitate to leave it at my talk page. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the message on my talk page. :) Don't worry, I'm not at all upset about the RfA - I've had a really excellent night in meatspace (honourable mention in a fairly large debating competition, woo ^_^ ), and I'm not a big believer in letting things on the internet bring me down. But really, I'm crying on the inside. ;) Thanks again for the support; we'll see how I go in the future, ey? Hopefully, I'll suck less by then. RandyWang (chat/patch) 11:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

With new buttons come great responsibility, and I'll try my best to live up to your expectations. If you need assistance with something, don't hesitate to swing by my talk page or email me (trust me, I do respond :)). The same goes for any complaints or comments in regard to my administrative actions. Remember, I'm here for you.

[edit] Reply

Hi there, thank you very much for the note, since it brought down a bit of wikistress with it. :) I am hardly editing at the moment, since I have university exams and...wait for it...Irish Dancing championships in three weeks, which basically means when I am not studying I'm dancing, pretty exhausting. I am glad not to have the extra responsibility of the mop at the moment, and I am of more use to the Encyclopedia without it to be honest. In addition to all this, my computer is giving me uphill (I managed to get it going properly this morning on the 30th attempt, waiting for it to freeze any minute now) so that doesn't exactly help much either. :P But otherwise things are doing pretty well. :D I'm sure I'll be back editing like crazy in November, when my exams end and I go on holiday, I look forward to that. How are things with you? Ill I see? :( Anyway, nice to hear from you, and thanks for dropping by. All the best -- Banes 07:29, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

P.S. When are you going to become an admin? I read up now, while I'd be truly honoured to co-nom, you've probably already got too many. :) I'll be writing that loooong support statement.

[edit] Hi

Hi The Halo. Just a friendly note of clarification of the AfD's that non-administrators should be closing. We (really!) appreciate your work at AfD in closing completed discussions, but per Wikipedia:Deletion process#Non-administrators closing discussions, non-administrators may only close decisions which are unambiguous "keep" decisions, or variants thereof. A couple of the AfD's that you've closed recently as "no consensus" wouldn't qualify (but I must say, I agree with the decisions). Thanks, and please keep up the good work at AfD -- Samir धर्म 12:50, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

(chuckle) I don't think you'll have any problems with passing your RfA :) (knock wood) The only reason I bring it up is that we had problems with an editor last month who closed a whack of AfD's as "no consensus" where some of them were clear deletes. As you are a more trusted editor, feel free to do what you think is best, but my recommendation would be to stick to the above. Take care -- Samir धर्म 13:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] on my comments in your RfA

Hello there, I'm pleased that you understood the meaning behind the neutral vote comments on your RfA page. I try very hard to express myself in a clear manner, and I don't always succeed. I do believe that you can be trusted with the admin tools; I simply feel that candidates for adminship should have significant experience contributing in the article space, above and beyond just vandalism-fighting. In that way, such candidates can better appreciate the process by which Wikipedia articles are born and developed. I don't have a strict numerical threshold for this criterion, and my thinking in this matter is subject to change.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't vote for myself if this were my own RfA, but I'm much more critical about myself than I am about others.

I hope you will understand that I will leave my vote as "neutral", because my position hasn't changed, and furthermore, I believe it would be improper for a vote to be changed based on discussions outside of the RfA page. Whatever happens, I wish you the best of luck. --Tachikoma 04:05, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

By "I wouldn't vote for myself if this were my own RfA", I meant that I fail my own standards for adminship, but I'm extremely self-critical too. BTW, I changed my signature to reflect my real name (part of it, anyway) and to be easier for people to type. (formerly Tachikoma) --Kyoko 01:05, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!
