Hello and congratulations on creating your first article. :) It's great to have another contributer to sign-language-related stuff on wikipedia; I hope you stick around. i want to make a couple of comments about the PSE page — normally comments go on the relevant talk-page but as you seem a little unsure I thought I'd make a more personal note here. I hope you find my comments to be constructive and not discouraging. You mentioned that you don't know how to expand a stub into a full article; one way is to get other potential contributors looking at the page. This can be done by finding relevant articles and linking them to the new stub. There are a few of pages that already refer to PSE; just make the relevant text into a link to the PSE page! Also, the right category tag can help place the page in the context of related articles. Thirdly, you could just do some research and expand the page yourself. :P

Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is global. A PSE can arise between English and ASL as well as BSL, Auslan, NZSL, etc. I've corrected a few pages in the past which have unintentionally asssumed "sign language" equals ASL. To take the argument further, very similar phenomena occur between other sign languages and spoken/manually-coded languages (such as Signed German and DGS), so it would be good to include them in such a page, which could be named Contact Sign. There is another reason for choosing this name: even ASL linguistics now uses the term "Contact Signing" rather than PSE. This is because the PSE phenomenon doesn't really match the definition of a pidgin; it's a better fit with the term contact language. The last thing I want to mention about the term PSE is that it's often written as Pidgin Sign English rather than Pidgin Signed English. The name of the article should be the better/most common of the two, and the other term made to redirect there.

Of course I could (and might) go ahead and make these changes myself! But I wanted to encourage a dialog too. By the way, have you seen the Manually Coded English page? It has a section on PSE. Cheers, ntennis 01:52, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

I set up the disambiguation for you at NAD. I did not feel like putting much on the National Association for the Deaf article yet. It is currently sub stub. Feel free to add to it or if you don't I eventually will get around to making it at least a stub. [edit] Gamemaster -D&D section?

Hi, Bearded One. I appreciate you going over the Gamemaster article. It was the product of a merge, so could use a bit of tweaking, thanks. However, I noticed you took out the D&D section of Gamemaster completely. Any particular reason? The article is a mix of the general and the specific, and D&D, love it or hate it, is the most popular RPG... GRuban 14:34, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

The Gamemaster article is (at present) geared toward presenting and explaining a GM's role over RPGs regardless of system. Yes, D&D is the oldest, but its role is adequately lauded in the History of role-playing games article. Since the term "Dungeon Master" was copywrited by TSR, the term is of limited utility in other regards.
The opening paragraphs have links to articles which can go into much greater detail about D&D and its role in creating RPGs as a hobby and/or art form. So I'm not sure how it is possible to justify an entire subsection devoted solely to D&D and DMing.
Believe me, I've played or read or GMed just about every major rpg on the market (and a fair number of minor and unpublished rpgs) since 1979. D&D does have a special place in the rpg world for being first, but in most other qualitative aspects of rpg, it has been surpassed by the likes of GURPS, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Big Eyes, Small Mouth. Hello, Bearded One. I agree. I think both the RPG and Gamemaster articles are fairly traditional, and could benefit from mentioning other variants on doing things. WHen I have some time I think I'll add a section on GM tasks (for example playing NPCs, planning adventures, making sure everyone are having fun) and how some games distribute them instead of concentrating them to one person. Hello, I'm toying with the idea of a WikiProject for roleplaying games. I see that you've edited RPG articles and I thought I should ask you what you think of the idea. Do you think it could be done and would you be interested in helping out? I'm a long-time reader, but I haven't hardly edited anything yet, so I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions you might have. I've talked a bit about it on my blog.

I don't want to start anything without following through, and I want to avoid starting something I can't finish. But a WikiProject would be a good way to coordinate efforts, and it would be easier to attract more people to improve RPG articles, don't you think? Jonas Karlsson 16:27, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Me? I've never started or even participated in an actual WikiProject. I haven't read the pages concerning their goals (though I guess they're self-directed). I just patrol the rpg pages and make corrections and revert vandalism when I see it. What else do you envision? The Bearded One 04:51, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I neither have any experience with WikiProjects, but I'd like to contribute to this one. Concerning my actions so far are much like the Bearded Ones, checking for vandalism and improving articles where they are poorly written. I only have experience with DSA, Shadowrun and Vampire: The Masquerade and a bit of other World of Darkness stuff, but as far as it is about style rather than know-how, I'll contribute anywhere -- Genesis 11:23, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
It would be great if both of you could help out, Bearded One and Genesis. We will decide our own project goals and what should be done to improve articles in a more coordinated manner. Hi The Beared One. I'm seeking opinions and possible support for an issue in which I'm in a debate with other Wikipedians. I'm trying to change indiscrimant use of the term "deaf-mute" in describing deaf people in general. To see some comments related to the issue, see Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, as well as my own Talk page, User talk:Ward3001. You can also follow the links to other discussions. Right now I'm about the only person addressing the issue because deaf people are such a small minority. Other Wikipedians, with apparently no prior knowledge of the issue, are reverting my edits.
