Apex predator/superpredator

Maybe you are not satisfied that dolphins or leopard seals are superpredators because of the killer whale -- but even the polar bear, the tiger, and the Great White shark don't stand a chance against an orca. The dog? When hunting with humans it becomes a superpredator and makes humans even more effective. That there are animals capable of killing humans and dogs for food does not indicate that there aren't niches in which both face no large predator, and in view of their presence everywhere, there are many places where they are the apex predators.

Fire ants and army ants might lose a few in a struggle against some large prey -- but that's part of their way of life, and in the end, the mighty in their world can fall to them. The fire ants taking over the southern tier of the United States face no obvious threat.

The Portuguese man-of-war and the box jelly may be occasional treats for some sea turtles, but that's about it.

Some of your deletions make no sense. What could top either a salt-water crocodile or a Nile crocodile as a killer? What could possibly attack and kill a king cobra?

Dogs (with appropriate qualifications) and owls are even in the text.

Perhaps some of the problem comes from the attempt to conflate 'apex predators' and 'superpredators', which isn't your doing. The top of the food chain could be such a creature as an elephant or a hippopotamus (neither is a predator) or even a plant (example: a giant redwood). But those are not predators. The absolute top predators in most of the world are either armed humans or killer whales, and if the article is limited to them, then one has too little with which to discuss.

If the creature is a known man-eater (bears, big cats, and crocodiles), presumed man-eater (reticulated python, Komodo dragon), or potential man-eater (alligator, wolf), then it is certainly a superpredator. Medium-sized dogs in packs and large dogs clearly have the means (if not the desire) to kill and eat humans. But significantly-predatory creatures that aren't easy prey as adults would seem close enough. That would seem to include owls and dolphins, the latter capable of a fearsome charge, especially in a group, that causes sharks to keep their distance.

So perhaps the dog picture should go (too many breeds) unless it can be shown with a human in hunting mode. But the rest? You have seen my defense.
