I, AM The Laser, I AM an american (W00T!), and I AM a nerd.

[edit]

I am in highschool, in Indiana. I absorb history like sponge in the sink. I have met some pretty interesting people in my life, including many war veterans, who tell me about what they did in their tour(s) of duty. My favorite war stories are the ones heard when I was on a plane on the way to my grandparents house in Oklahoma, and I sat next to a guy whose named I will not attempt to spell (or pronounce!). He was from Isreal and told me about when he fought the, I quote here, "muslim basterds" in the Isreali Air Force during the 6 days war. he shot down 4 MIG 21's and is very very proud for his home land. He also told me about when he was inducted into the military at Masada, this was the greatest moment of his life. My other favorite war stories are the stories of Paternal Grandfather (Papa). He originaly told my family that he was a bomber pilot in the war, but he later told me the truth. I was sitting by the pool at the country club my grandparents belong too, and he said "I've never told anyone what I really did in the war, but I think I should tell you." I really didn't know what to say, because he had never even told his own wife after 55 years of marrige, and none of his children, and he wanted to tell me! I felt so important. "I actually was in the airforce don't get me wrong there, and I did fly over berlin several times, but what I did was very neat. i helped develop a primative form of GPS, what it did was it sent radar waves down to the ground, and it bounced back, and told the crew about what was under them at the time, and we had maps that functioned with the radar, and it helped to keep them (the pilots) on course. But of course since the technology was expensive and unreliable at times, only the lead bomber in the formation got the equipment, and i would fly with the head bombers and teach them how to use this device. Also i worked on putting some of the first on-board radar systems on planes.
