[edit] Plot summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The book takes place between the original series Star Trek episode Space Seed and the motion picture Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and contains numerous retcon references that seek to resolve discrepancies between the episode and the film.

The book gives a plausible explanation of how Chekov and Khan had met prior to the events of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In this book it is mentioned that Chekov had led a charge against Khan while the latter still had free run of the ship, and that the charge had failed miserably. It further states that Chekov had accompanied Khan and his followers down to Ceti Alpha V and had given Khan a phaser before leaving.
