Therese Murray

Therese Murray is an American politician from the state of Massachusetts. As of March 21, 2007 she is the President of the Massachusetts Senate, becoming the first woman to lead a legislative body in the state.^[1]

Murray represents the districts of Plymouth and Barnstable in the Massachusetts Senate, and, before becoming Senate President, was the chairperson of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

Mrs. Murray is a strong supporter of states' rights and is actively working on writing a Universal Health Care bill.^{[citation needed]}

Many consider her a possible candidate for higher state office, Congress, or even the United States Senate.^{[citation needed]} Murray has been considered as a candidate for Lieutenant-Governor of Massachusetts on the Democratic ticket, but is believed to have declined.^{[citation needed]}
