Theophanes of Mytilene was a major political figure in the town of Mytilene on the island of Lesbos around the middle of the first century BC. His contributions to his city were so great that he was accorded the honours of a hero after his death and his portrait appeared in relief on terracotta medallions fixed to the inside bottom of bowls.
