The Ultimate Weapon is Revived (Japanese: よみがえった究極兵器 - Yomigaetta kyūkyoku heiki) is the episode number 219 of the anime series Naruto, and the eleventh episode of the 9th season.

[edit] Plot

Jin puts his final plan in motion by using Gaara to revive the "ultimate weapon" of Takumi Village, Seimei.

Gaara has apparently cornered Jin, the Shitenshounin leader, in a dead-end valley. However, Jin says that Gaara is the one who is cornered. The rest of the Sand and Leaf ninjas are hurrying to his position and Shino speculates that the battle up to now may have been a diversion.

Sakura finishes healing Rock Lee, while Ino looks on. Lee insists on rejoining the others, despite Sakura’s advice that he rests for a while. Ino is impressed by Sakura’s progress as a medical ninja, and again feels depressed about her own lack of contribution to the team.

Gaara fights Jin, despite the fact that he is low on chakra and his special chakra-infused sand. Jin dumps Matsuri and draws his sword and summons his “Infinite Armor”, a combination of his teammates weapons. He attacks Gaara with a whirlwind, and Gaara dodges by hiding under the sand. Jin then attacks with Ryūgan’s sword, and Gaara is unable to dodge completely, taking a grazing hit to one arm. Jin taunts Gaara, telling him to call upon the chakra of Shukaku.

Naruto arrives on the scene, frees Matsuri and orders her to take cover, while Gaara tries to defend himself with a kunai in each hand. Jin’s attacks have Gaara trapped against the valley wall. Naruto intervenes, declaring that he is now Jin’s opponent. Jin attacks Naruto with “Peacock Whirlwind”, knocking him off his feet. Jin takes the opportunity to gloat and reveal his master plan.

Once the “ultimate weapons” of Takumi Village are perfected, they will end the need for ninja. Takumi Village is tired of supplying the Five Great Shinobi Nations with tools and weapons and getting no thanks in return. Every time they needed help, they had to beg for it from the Five Great Shinobi villages. Because of worsening relations between them, and because they were worried that the weapons would be passed around freely, Takumi Village was raided for their weapons.

Jin stops talking and attacks Naruto, first with Ryūgan’s sword, then with his own, using a fire jutsu and slamming Naruto into the valley wall. However, when Jin tries kill Naruto, Gaara intervenes by creating a dome of hardened sand around Naruto, using the remains of his own sand to create more sand from the surrounding dirt. Jin sneers at Gaara’s protective insincts, and triggers his final trap; a hemispherical steel cage that emerges from the ground and surrounds Gaara, as he drops the sand shield from around Naruto.

Meanwhile, Kakashi is in Tsunade’s office, listening to a report on Takumi Village, which explains that the Shitenshounin want to revive Seimei, the "ultimate weapon" of Takumi Village. The other residents evacuated in order to avoid the danger. Kakashi is about to rush off to the battle area, but Tsunade stops him, requesting he take Jiraiya with him.

Jin explains that he wants the chakra of Shukaku, which is sealed within Gaara. The cage starts to seal itself, and Gaara quickly throws the jouhyou over to Matsuri, who has been watching the entire time. Gaara manages to slip enough sand through the cage's sections to form his Third Eye on the outside, allowing him to see what is going on.

Naruto wakes up as Jin activates the cage, which starts to drain Gaara’s chakra into Suikon’s chakra-absorbing armor. Jin uses some of that chakra to blast some rock away from the valley wall, revealing a stone sarcophagus, which contains the body of Seimei. Jin brings him back to life by using all of his own chakra and the chakra he stole from Gaara, sacrificing his life and body to revive Seimei.

Seimei dons the weapons and armor that Jin provided for him, saying that Takumi Village will stand at the top of the Shinobi world. He is able to use their weapons and techniques without using his hands or hand-seals. Seimei also says that Gaara will soon turn into Shukaku, and that he will use the transformed Gaara as an infinite source of chakra. Outraged, Naruto attacks head on, but is beaten badly. Meanwhile, inside the cage, Gaara starts to lose control as Shukaku begins to emerge.

Team Shikamaru, along with Kankuro & Temari, closes in on Naruto & Gaara. Hinata and Neji scan ahead with Byakugan and see what is going on. Temari warns Shikamaru about what will happen if Shukaku is allowed to fully emerge.

Naruto tries to free Gaara from the cage, and Seimei blasts him again with a fire jutsu. Naruto manages to avoid being badly hurt, and tries to dig under the cage. Seimei uses “Way of Karmic Suffering”, essentially pelting Naruto with rocks and slamming him into the valley wall. Seimei drains even more chakra from Gaara, and declares war against the Five Great Shinobi Nations. He says that Gaara was a necessary sacrifice to this end.

Naruto manages to stand up, saying that they won’t give their power to Seimei. Matsuri marvels at his determination. Seimei asks Naruto why he is fighting so hard for the Sand Village’s “monster”. Naruto responds that Gaara is his friend, reminiscent of what he told Gaara when he protected Sakura and Sasuke.

Matsuri finally realizes what Gaara meant when he said that weapons can be used to protect someone important. She uses the jouhyou to block Seimei’s attack on Naruto. However, she is soon tossed aside. Just then, Gaara bursts free from the cage, partially transformed into Shukaku.

[edit] Trivia

  • In order to revive someone from the dead in Naruto, a living soul must be sacrificed. In this case, however, unlike Orochimaru’s “Summoning: Impure World Resurrection”, the soul of the dead returns to its original body, with its original personality and free will intact.
