Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

In this episode, Lee is diagnosed as having overworked himself, and is forbidden the use of Reverse Lotus. He later faces off in a practice bout with a young ninja that Gai thinks is extremely promising. The young ninja turns out to be extremely talented and even "breaks" Lee's Konoha whirlwind attack, Lee's weights being the only thing to prevent his leg from being broken. Lee is very upset that such a young ninja, not even in the academy, could give him so much trouble, and his fears are heightened when Gai leaves Lee behind on his next mission, taking the young ninja instead.

Shortly after Gai and his charge leave, however, Tsunade discovers that this young ninja is a fake. Suspecting a trap, she sends Naruto, Neji, and Tenten out after Gai.

Sure enough, it is a trap: Gai finds himself battling a horde of strange training dummies which can reconstruct themselves and join together in their attacks. He is excited to face such a challenge and destroys countless numbers of them, but they are ultimately all able to reform into a huge building, trapping him inside.
