The conclusion of the rain of tears (Japanese: 涙雨の結末, - Namida ame no ketsumatsu) is episode 134 of the anime series Naruto. The episode's storyline is from the Sasuke Retrieval manga arc, and covers the conclusion of the fight between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha at the Valley of the End.

The episode begins with Naruto in his one-tailed Nine-tailed demon fox form and Sasuke having just taken his cursed seal to level two. Naruto asks Sasuke if this is what he thinks as special and charges savagely at him, only to be blocked by huge, hand-shaped wings sprouting from Sasuke's back. The hand opens, flinging Naruto into the statue on the other side of the waterfall. As another wing grows next to it, Sasukes feels a pain and realizes that he cannot last long in his current form. He decides to try and end the battle quickly, remembering Sakon's warning that he might lose himself forever.

Naruto also realizes that his form steadily weakens him, as he loses the feeling in his left arm, rendering it useless. Sasuke also notices this and finds out that Naruto uses the Kyuubi power as a risk and tells Naruto the name of the place they are fighting in - this is the Valley of the End, an appropriate setting for this battle. A flashback runs of the pair's friendship and rivalry, which includes them being picked for Team 7, them passing the bell test, Sasuke calling him a scaredey-cat, Naruto calling Sasuke a scaredey-cat, Sasuke wanting to fight Naruto, Naruto wanting to fight Sasuke as well, Sasuke saying that he never wants to see another important person in front of him die again, Naruto summoning Gamanbunta in his fight with Gaara, and their fight on hospital roof. Sasuke builds up his One Thousand Birds attack, but it is mixed with the Cursed Seal to form the Flapping One Thousand Birds, and Naruto builds up a Rasengan with his still-able right hand, mixing it with the Kyuubi's chakra to give it more power and a greater size (also a more purple-ish look, due to the red & blue chakra colors). The two then leap at each other, and the two attacks meet, causing a sphere of purple chakra to form around them. Inside, Sasuke almost pierces Naruto with his attack, but then misses on intent and just punches him in the stomach so it's not to kill him, to which Naruto retaliates by scratching Sasuke's headband, as a retort to Sasuke's past comment about not being able to even scratch it. The sphere then turns black, and starts to expand, destroying some of the surrounding cliff face. The sphere expands further and turns into what is seemingly a ball of bright, rainbow-shimmering light. Meanwhile, Kakashi is still chasing after Naruto's and Sasuke's scent and all of a sudden senses a lot of chakra and thinks about how bad this is.

Within this light, Naruto and Sasuke are facing each other, their attacks both neutralized. There is another small flashback of their friendship, when young Naruto and Sasuke had shook hands, a sign of their friendship. The bright light fades to reveal them both back in their normal forms, with Sasuke standing over Naruto, who is lying unconscious on the ground. A ray of sunlight streams across the clouds and falls on Sasuke and Naruto before disappearing. Sasuke's scratched headband falls off and lands at Naruto's side, bringing back memories of Sasuke's mockery, that Naruto wasn't even going to be able to put a scratch on his [Sasuke's] forehead. Sasuke is about to say something but is interrupted because at this point it starts to rain. Sasuke appears to feel a pain in his left arm, coughs up some blood and falls to his knees looking over a minimally wounded but unconscious Naruto.

The action then cuts to Kakashi Hatake, who is racing to the Valley of the End in the hope of stopping the fight. When he arrives, he finds Naruto unconscious, but no sign of Sasuke other than his scratched headband. He thinks about how late they were and Pakkun rushes to Naruto's side asking about why this had to happen. Pakkun sniffs the Forehead protector and confirms it is Sasuke's. Kakashi picks Naruto up and carries him off while saying to himself that he was sorry for being so late and asks Naruto if he was desperate. Sasuke is then shown walking away, holding his left arm, and with two large rips in his shirt (caused by the growth of his wings which have now gone). He has a flashback to his family and to what his brother Itachi Uchiha said to him about how to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan, and says that he will not do what Itachi tells him to do, and that he will gain power his own way and surpass him in his own way for sure. Kakashi comments on when he sees the river flows he compares it as a never ending battle. Naruto wakes up for a few seconds but falls back to sleep. As the rain clears and Kakashi departs with Naruto, there is a brief scene showing Zetsu, a member of Akatsuki, appearing from the ground and commenting on the fight that just took place. The episode ends.

[edit] Trivia

• This episode is the second time Naruto uses the Rasengan one-handed. In times before, he had always created a shadow clone or used his other hand to build up the attack.
• The scratch Naruto gave to Sasuke's forehead protector also is an ironic indication that he is an Akatsuki member, this is also somehow ironic because in episode 107, Sasuke states that Naruto will never be able to put a scratch on his forehead, and also says this again at at the beginning of their fight (episode 132).
• Sasuke's forehead protector is now identical to Itachi's.
• This is the first episode where we see black Chidori, this is a result of combining the Chidori with second level Curse-Mark.
• First appearance of Zetsu.
