[edit] Synopsis
The cavepeople really need to be taught organization and teamwork, so Mario and Luigi play football in order to teach them. Roy and Larry are onto them, thinking "so that's their little scheme!"
The game doesn't go well. Yoshi uses his tongue to throw the ball and it goes a long distance, and Luigi has to catch it. Meanwhile, Luigi bumps into a Magikoopa who turns him into an egg. The Koopa Kids nearby notice this, so they decide to steal him, but they also notice Mario, and they decide to get them both. Mario and Yoshi decide to escape using a warp pipe (that leads straight to Bowser's Castle, which they don't know).
At Bowser's castle, they arrive and two Chargin' Chucks attack them. The Koopa Kids come out too, to tell Mario that his brother has been turned into an egg and that they will tell Bowser. Larry goes into Bowser's room to ask him what to do with Luigi the egg, so he automatically assumes that he is in charge of the egg.
The Koopalings decide to play football with the egg with Mario and Yoshi as the opposing team. They realise that they are outnumbered (Roy with 2 Chargin' Chucks), so they complain to Larry (who is the referee). Yoshi tries to eat one, but spits him out, complaing that "Eew! Tastes like sweatbands!"
The play begins with Mario running with the ball, but Roy jumps and tackles him. After another failed play, they decide to escape through a hole in the wall. The Koopalings send out Boos, Chargin' Chucks, Ninjies, and a Thwomp to stop him. He eventually grabs a Star, defeats all the enemies, and scores a touchdown (he cheats by going out of bounds).
They encounter the two Chargin' Chucks from before and, right on cue, the cavemen come and tackle them and the Koopalings. Back in the field, they look for the wand that the Magikoopa had. They find it and change Luigi back to normal.
[edit] Trivia/Goofs
- This episode is listed as 111A in production order which is exactly the same as aired order.
- When Larry says "I am the Emperor of Eavesdropping.", he appears bigger than usual.
- The first time Yoshi says "Higgety, huggety, hike!", the music in the background seems to go along with him.
- This is the only Super Mario World episode where Princess Toadstool doesn't appear.
- The football couldn't have possibly hit the Magikoopa after he turns Luigi into an egg, given that the football was still in mid-air as they bump into each other and could've flown right past them.
- When Roy says "Now that's not fair!", he appears smaller than he already is compared to Yoshi.
- During the touchdown dance, when Mario winks at Yoshi, his sleeve turns red and doesn't change back until he starts moving again! ([1])
- During the escape from the castle, the caveman with black hair and a red shirt jumps into the pipe first after Mario and Yoshi, but the caveman with a red shirt and yellow hair comes out of the pipe first after Mario and Yoshi!
- When Luigi is trying to catch the ball, the "L" on his cap is white on a green background.
- When Mario says "It's a stone, Luigi. You didn't make it," Yoshi's eyes are completely level with his head. This error happens several more times in the episode.
- Watch the jail cell that Mario and Yoshi are in. If you look at the bottom in early shots, there is nothing, but right before and while Morton is speaking, the bottom of the cell gets a brown bar!
- When Mario opens the door with the two Chargin' Chucks blocking them, there is a white star on their helmets. When the cavepeople run to knock them away, the stars disappear!
- When Larry peeps in at Mario drawing plays on the wall, the pupil of his eye turns white until the next scene!
- When Yoshi makes the interception from Roy, the torches aren't lit! All the torches were lit earlier before the "Fight to the Finish" song started!
- While Mario is saying "These wretched reptiles want us to play football with my brother as the ball" in the dungeon cell, in the close-up shot of Yoshi, his tail is all green even though we see the black line that separates the top green from the bottom white color!
- When the Chargin' Chuck opens Mario and Yoshi's cell, he has a spike on his shell. When we first saw the Chargin Chucks, they had none!
- In one scene where Mario and Yoshi are in the dungeon, the bars of the cells on the opposite side of the dungeon disappear!
- When Yoshi finishes the touchdown dance, his whole face turns green!
- When the caveman wearing the yellow diamond-patterned shirt spins around chanting "teamwork," the red diamond drawn on the shirt disappears!
- There is a Chargin' Chuck that crashes into a Thwomp in the Neon Castle. When we see it after Mario becomes invincible, the crack the Thwomp made earlier is gone!
- The Magikoopa's wand has three colored circles on it. When Mario uses it to change the egg back into Luigi, the wand has four colored circles on it! The fourth color is a light green!
- When the Magikoopa says "You are!" before swinging his wand, his mouth isn't moving!
- The Thwomps are coloured with blue spikes and white faces, the opposite of what they are supposed to be.
- This is a tricky one. When Mario and Yoshi enter the wall to escape the game they are chased by a Chargin' Chuck, two Boos, and a Paragoomba. In the very next scene, they are chased by a Chargin' Chuck and three Boos, but the Paragoomba is missing.
- When Mario says "What do you mean catch the ball? You were the ball!" his entire waist splits in half!
