The World's Greatest Sinner

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World's Greatest Sinner is a 1962 film written, directed by, and starring Timothy Carey. The movie has obtained cult status among a small group. The plot concerns a man (played by Carey) who quits his day job and starts preaching radical ideas to an ever growing crowd. Eventually, he gains a large group of followers who call him God and listen to his teachings about eternal life.

The film is a classic example of underground filmmaking, having been outside of the studio system on a shoestring budget. The movie is also notable as featuring a score from a very young pre-Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa. At the time, Zappa made a memorable appearance on The Steve Allen Show, playing music from the film on a bicycle.
