The Wine Cellar

The Wine Cellar in Fitchburg, Massachusetts is a popular night time hang-out for Fitchburg State College students. Located in between the train station and downtown Fitchburg, the Wine Cellar is very close to the school's campus. Although all business is welcome, Thursday and Saturday night crowds are clearly dominated with a presence of students. Cheap drinks, urban music and a forgiving dress code are just some of reasons that students frequent the Wine Cellar. Another reason it has become so popular with FSC, is the familiarity of the crowd. When an FSC student goes to the wine Cellar on a weekend night, he or she is likely to run into 20-30 friends and/or casual acquaintances. The location of the bar is not only convenient, but often considered to be safe. Rather than drive home while intoxicated, many students choose to walk home, and get their car from the parking garage on the following day. A typical walk, back to campus, takes about 10 minutes. Many times students will take a short detour to the local convenience market, "Store 24" to get some late night food. Like any college, students are always looking for a way to escape the stress of schoolwork on the weekends and just spend some time having fun with their peers. The Wine Cellar offers this fun distraction.

The official Wine Cellar website offers the slogan "Friends, Cocktails and Goodtimes." Live entertainment is offered from such acts as Scott Babineau, DJ Eric Corneau, Arnold's Carnival, New Pond Fondle, and Kelly and Captain. On some of the slower nights, an impromptu karaoke may be offered, depending on the discretion of the hired entertainment.

The Wine Cellar has close ties and supports all FSC sports teams. The owner Perry Papis is an avid FSC hockey fan and offers many of the jobs in and around the bar to hockey players looking to earn money while living on campus.
