The Windfall Varietal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Windfall Varietal is an unofficial album by the band Grandaddy, released in 2000. It first became available on their tour with Elliott Smith, beginning October 2000.
The album started out as a way to make more songs available less expensively. It was sold only at shows, and resulted in angry record labels and cease and desist[citation needed] orders. The band didn't have full permission to release the final track on the album. The band claims only a couple thousand were sold[citation needed]. If the album is ever re-released, it is speculated that the final track would not be there.
The first track is an instrumental version of part of The Sophtware Slump's He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot, and Fun x3, track 14, is a low-fi cover of The Beach Boys' Fun Fun Fun. The final track was released as a promotional single and can also be found on the XFM benefit compilation, It's a Cool, Cool Christmas.
