The Wind is a 1928 silent film in which a woman from the East moves to West Texas and must live with the constant blowing wind, sand, and brutal men. It stars Lillian Gish, Lars Hanson, Montagu Love and Dorothy Cumming.
[edit] Background
The movie was adapted by Frances Marion from the The Wind (novel) by Dorothy Scarborough. It was directed by Swedish director Victor Sjöström and has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest late-period silent films.[citation needed]
The film was shot partially near Bakersfield, California. The off-key happy ending of the film that was released was added at the insistence of MGM Studios, who refused to approve the novel's logical ending in which Gish's character wandered into a windstorm and died.
