The Whole Story is Kate Bush's 6th album, and her first - and to this date only - "greatest hits" collection. The album includes two previously unreleased recordings: a new piece entitled "Experiment IV", and a remix of Bush's first hit, "Wuthering Heights," featuring newly-recorded vocals. The album peaked at No. 1 on the UK albums chart.

A videotape also called The Whole Story was released at the same time. It includes the videos for the songs on the album (in the same order), plus the video for "The Big Sky", a song from Hounds of Love which is not included in the compilation album. The video for "Wow" as featured on this release features excerpts from Bush's live tour, as the singer was no longer fond of the original promotional video. The video for "Experiment IV" has cameos by Dawn French and Hugh Laurie.

In 2006 the album was still selling, and charted again. Unofficially, the album has sold over 5 million copies making it one of the most successful greatest hits collection by any artist[citation needed].
