The Wettening is an episode of the television series Invader Zim, produced and aired as episode 5B, on April 27, 2001.

It starts to rain, and the kids at Skool are overjoyed, running outside to jump around. Zim, however, has not encountered rain before, and Dib taunts him, asking ,"What, you didn't have rain on your planet?" Zim replies, "Of course we do! Ah, such rain we had, it was delicious." (In a way, Zim admitted he was an alien in his answer.) Annoyed, Zim runs outside and holds his finger out into the rain. A drop hits his finger and his skin, on contact with water, burns. Dib sees an opportunity...
After it stops raining, Dib, followed by the bored Gaz kicks a puddle into Zim's face, causing him to writhe in agony. Zim vows revenge, while Dib prepares for a climactic encounter. In a montage, the two enemies prepare weapons for the fight.
The next day, Zim is not at Skool. Dib has come, however, armed with a large water-carrying device on his back, akin to a squirt gun. But as it turns out, Zim is in space, and he proceeds to drain all the water from the Earth, filling an incredibly large water balloon. With a giant slingshot, Zim sends it to Earth, right to the overwhelmed Dib.
The water instantly explodes everywhere, flooding everything. Dib is left defeated and mumbling, and most of the houses are destroyed. But back on Earth, Zim gets his head stuck in his toilet, so again, nobody totally wins.

- According to the episode, it seems that Irken skin burns on contact with any water (or possibly any moisture), but if covered in paste, they are immune to water. In episodes before (and after) this, the rule does not always apply. Zim gets splashed with punch in Parent Teacher Night. He does a barrel roll on his pig balloon into water in Attack of the Saucer Morons. He gets sprayed by a hose in Door to Door and The Frycook What Came from All That Space.
- Jhonen Vasquez's last cameo in the series as the man who chokes on his pirahna. He appears to be reading Squee's wonderful big book of unspeakable horrors.
- Steve Ressel makes his last cameo appearance as well eating a hotdog, then being washes away by a tidal wave.
- A boy with a shirt that says "smell?" can be seen in this episode, as the kids are leaving school. He has also appeared in the episode "The Voting of the Doomed."
