From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wagon Wheel is a famous bar in Lawrence, KS.
To frequent bar-goers it is referred to just as "The Wheel".
The Wheel is well liked for its history in Lawrence, KS and the University of Kansas, as well as its jukebox, and $2.50 Coors Light. After a night at the Wheel patrons can go to the attached Wheel Pizza Company for a slice of cheese, pepperoni, or sausage.
Bar-goers leave their mark on the bar by signing the walls, ceilings, booths, bar, and bathrooms. Every friday night before a KU home football game the bar band comes and plays the school's Alma Mater and the fight song, I'm a Jayhawk.
It is the home of the famous "Wang Burger", which is referenced frequently by Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter, which airs on ESPN. ESPN announcers can often be seen at the Wheel before or after nationaly advertised KU home basketball games. Jack Black also highlighted the Wheel by stealing a neon sign from it then including it in his hosting of Saturday Night Live which airs on NBC.
