[edit] Career
In 1997 two ex-college roommates, Jason Stollsteimer and Marcie Bolen, attended a concert by Japanese rock & roll giants Guitar Wolf. At the time, Stollsteimer was working a job as a bowling alley bartender. The performance spurred the pair to create their own band called the Baby Killers. The band only lasted a year, at which time Jason started a band called the Done Wrongs with Don Blum on drums and Mariah Cherem on Vocals. The Done Wrongs ended up getting a record deal with SFTRI in 2000, but never released a record due to the fact Mariah was in school full time.
The baby killers reformed around this time, but soon changed their name to the Von Bondies soon after recruiting Lauren Wilcox on bass and Don Blum on drums.
While playing a handful of shows in the Detroit area, the quartet recorded singles It Came From Japan, an ode to Guitar Wolf, and Nite Train. Jack White of the White Stripes along with the The Dirtbombs' Jim Diamond later produced the Von Bondies' debut album, Lack of Communication, in late 2001. It was recorded in only three days. More then half of the songs on Lack of Communication were Done Wrongs songs. For example: no sugar mama, going down, please please man and Cryin'.
The Von Bondies have done 4 headlining tours of the UK, 2 of Australia, and 7 of the US. They also have appeared on The Letterman Show, Carson Daily show and CD:UK to name a few. The Von Bondies released Raw and Rare, a live record, through dimmak records in 2003. The Von Bondies released Pawn Shoppe Heart through Sire Records (known for signing such artists as Madonna, The Smiths, and The Ramones) in February of 2004 to positive reviews. It was produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and co-produced by Jason Stollstimer of The Von Bondies.
Around the time of the record's release, Jack White of the White Stripes got into a fight with Stollsteimer during the record release party for Detroit band Blanche. White was required to attend anger management classes, and pay a fine[1].
Their song "C'mon, C'mon" is featured in the TV series Rescue Me.
They have been in the studio for most of 2006 working on their third studio album.
