[edit] Synopsis
Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad are walking in Desert Hill when a gondolier from Venice appears out of a pipe. The pizza man has run away from Venice due to a sea monster. The Mario Bros. notice that something draws them to Venice, so after defeating some underwater enemies, the Mario Bros. go to Venice and find out that the "sea monster" is the Doomsub. Bowser plans to warp the city to his castle for a water park for Kootie Pie. The Mario Bros. sleep in Venice, but their room goes underwater. After defeating two Boom Booms, they go back to sleep, stow away on the Doomsub, and warp Bowser, Kootie Pie and the Doomsub back to the Mushroom Kingdom. The Mario Bros. find the secret that Venice holds for them: a statue of plumbers who look like them.
