[edit] More on the Series
LA Banks drew a lot of her inspiration to pen this series from the local news. She considers the everyday criminals seen on the news as vampires. Especially those criminals who harm children, that's where the beginning thoughts for the series were formed. Many of the characters attitudes and mannerisms are based on people that have at one point been in LA Banks'life. In this series, there are also references to African culture. The lead character has a tattoo called the sankofa. The sankofa is an Akan symbol that means "go back and retrieve".
Books 1 and 2 of The Vampire Huntress Legend Series (Minion and The Awakening), have been optioned for Hollywood films by GothamBeach Entertainment and Griot Entertainment. Originally a nine book series with St. Martin's Press/Griffin, has now become a twelve book series!

The Vampire Huntress Legend Series first began with the book Minion. Minion introduces Damali, a young twenty year old African American female. Damali is the Neteru (the huntress). Damali is a spirited young female who has lots of energy. As her day job, she is a very influential spoken word artist who writes and produces all her material. Her material is her life experiences. Damali's parents were killed when she was infant as a result she was in foster care. Her experiences there lead her to flew thus starting her entire journey as a vampire huntress. In Minion, Damali's guardian team is introduced. They consider themselves a family unit. The guardian team consists of Marlene (mother figure), Shabazz (Nafes Shabazz/father figure), with Big Mike, Jose, JL and Rider being like her big brothers and new comer Dan. Everyone has some form of a special skill and an extrasensory specialty.
Damali and her team start to notice that the usual vampires do not look like themselves. Their features appear different. And they have an odor so strong that it makes the team members who have an extrasensory speciality of the sense of smell (olfactory) the sense of smell physical sick. Damali and the guardian team find out that these different vampires are like hybrids. They were created by evil vampire Fallon Nuit (forever night) who had forged a deal with a demon. Fallon Nuit refers to the "new" form of vampires as minion.

He is completely shocked to find out that his family and friends have been half eaten alive. While he is checking out looking in on them, he thinks about the one that got away, Damali. Carlos wonders what life would have been like if he had chosen to explore their relationship, take their relationship to that next level. The two had some of the most explosive chemistry that two people could ever have. But little does Carlos Rivera know that he is being led into a trap by none other than the evil rouge master vampire Fallon Nuit. Fallon has some plans for the young drug lord. He sees lots of plenty in Carlos to spread evil and to join his family of vampires.
In order to save himself, Damali and her guardian team, Carlos forms an alliance with second highest council of the dark side to get rid of rouge master vampire Fallon Nuit. Which is why Carlos evolved so quickly from a strong second vampire into a master. Master against master.
