The Unofficial Clone Wars Site

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Unofficial Clone Wars Site (TUCWS) is one of the largest and comprehensive fan sites on the internet dedicated to the Clone Wars as shown in George Lucas's Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith and the multimedia campaign that included novels, video/computer games, comic books, cartoons and short stories.

[edit] Site History

The Unofficial Clone Wars Site was first started on January 24th, 2003 by Paul Myers to document the growing number of Clone Wars stories in one chronology. At the time, it contained the first six Clone Wars novels that were announced at the time, Three Boba Fett Novels and the console game, Clone Wars. Certain events crossed over with each other, and it was decided to also keep track of the battles fought in the books and games. A request was put out on internet message boards for assistance. A third section, this one focusing on Characters, was suggested by Nathan O'Keefe when he started compiling a list of Jedi. Brian Gates, the co-founder of the website, began to add non-Jedi characters to the character list. The site was first hosted on T-Bone's Star Wars network, a large group of fan websites linked through www.starwarz.com.

Shortly thereafter, it was announced that Cartoon Network would begin to create a series of animated short films and a news section was added to the site to keep track of the incoming news articles and announcements on books, cartoons, computer games and movie news. A features section was added when Andrew Liptak joined the site staff, bringing interviews conducted with the authors and artists of the books, as well as reviews of the recently published novels and comic books and essays regarding the Clone Wars content.

The first interview was uploaded on June 2003 with author Matthew Stover, which set a record for the number of website hits at the time. Future interviews would include Michael A. Stackpole, Joe Corroney, Brian Ching, Jan Duursema, Steven Barnes, Micheal Reaves, Steven Perry and Karen Traviss, among others. During 2003-2005, the site expanded, eventually gaining its own domain name, www.clonewarz.com and became known as a very comprehensive database for battles, characters and a complete timeline.

The staff of the site worked via the internet, and it wasn't until the official Star Wars Celebration 3 that Nathan, Andrew and Brian met face to face.
