The Ultimate Maniacs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ultimate Maniacs was a tag team in the WWF from September to November 1992.

The team consisted of former WWF Champions Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior. Both men had previous tag team experience, as Savage once teamed with Hulk Hogan as The Mega Powers, and Warrior once teamed with Sting in the old UWF. The team was formed after SummerSlam, where Savage and Warrior wrestled for the title, and became friends afterwards. Ric Flair had won the title back from Savage at a House Show in Hershey, PA with help from Razor Ramon. After the match, Savage, who had a knee injury from SummerSlam aggravated by Ramon during the match, was trying to get back to the locker room on his own. After awhile, a concerned Warrior went out to the arena and lifted Savage, helping him to the back for medical help. Over a week later on WWF Superstars, during an interview conducted by "Mean" Gene Okerlund, Savage and Warrior announced their alliance, dubbing themselves The Ultimate Maniacs. In the weeks that followed, a tag team match was set up for Survivor Series 1992, between the Maniacs and the tandem of Flair (who by this time lost the title to Bret Hart) and Ramon. A week and a half before the match was to take place, the Maniacs got a title shot at then WWF Tag Team Champions Money Inc.. DiBiase and IRS lost the match by count-out, but kept the title, in what would prove to be the Maniacs' last match as a team. Warrior left the WWF after that match, thus ending the team.

Mr. Perfect, who had been Flair's "Executive Consultant" for about a year, turned on Flair and Ramon after Savage chose him to replace Warrior for the Survivor Series match on an episode of WWF Prime Time Wrestling. Bobby Heenan was irate, and the night ended with Mr. Perfect dumping water on Heenan. Perfect and Savage won the match. After the match, Savage and Perfect cemented their newfound friendship, and Perfect's face turn.
