The Two of Us is an ITV comedy series starring Nicholas Lyndhurst and Janet Dibley as Ashley and Elaine, an unmarried couple living together. It was produced by London Weekend Television.
The first of the 29 episodes was broadcast on 31 October 1986, and the last, after four seasons, on 4 March 1990, in which the couple married.
Ashley's grandfather, Perce, was first played by Patrick Troughton, but later replaced by Tenniel Evans after Troughton's death. The couple regularly visited his domineering mother (Jennifer Piercey) and suppressed father (Paul McDowell).
[edit] Note
The Two of Us is also the name of a 1987 BBC television film about two gay teenagers that fall in love. The film was produced for British sex education classrooms, and—in compliance with Section 28 of the United Kingdom's 1988 Local Government Act—its ending was changed so that the characters chose to be heterosexual. However, the film was made available to the public on VHS and DVD with its original ending intact.
