1981

  • 28 April 1981 (27) Protestant - Robert McKee

Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR), Killed by: Irish Republican Army (IRA). Shot by sniper while travelling along Dublin Road, Castlewellan.

1985

  • 03 May 1985 (51) Protestant - William Hennan

Civilian (local farmer), Killed by: Irish Republican Army (IRA). Shot at his home, near Castlewellan

1986

  • 18 March 1986 (20) Royal Green Jackets, British Army - David Mullery

Killed by: Irish Republican Army (IRA). Killed by remote controlled bomb, hidden in derelict building detonated when joint British Army (BA) / Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) foot patrol passed, Castlewellan.

1987

Castlewellan resident, Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC), Killed by: Irish Republican Army (IRA) shot at nearby Ballynahinch Police Station

2000

  • An RUC officer was injured in a CIRA booby-trap bomb on the 1 November on the Newcastle Road in the town, close to the RUC station.

2002

  • 21 February 2002 (26) Catholic - Matthew Burns

Killed by: Irish Republican Army (IRA), shot dead in a drive-by shooting outside the Bridge Bar in the Burrenbridge area of Castlewellan. Suspected drug-dealer
