1997

  • January 1997 - three Grenadier Guardsmen narrowly escaped a murder attempt by the Provisional Irish Republican Army. The soldiers, based at Ballykinler, were socialising in a Ballynahinch bar. A bomb was attached to their car which exploded when one of the soldiers was checking the vehicle for explosives. None of the soldiers were seriously hurt.
