The Triangle (newspaper)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Triangle is the independent student newspaper of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Operation of the newspaper began in 1926, under the direction of students with University advisors functioning only to offer advice. Publication has been on a weekly schedule during the academic school year with bi-weekly publication during summer. The Triangle began publishing in color in the summer of 2004. In 2007, the paper made major changes to the its aesthetic appearance, most notably designing a new, modern masthead. In addition to a new look, the Triangle's offices underwent construction, and brand new computer equipment was purchased. Special issues of the paper include a Valentine's Day pullout called Love Cow, and a satirical issue for April Fool's Day called The Rectangle.
The paper version of the Triangle is distributed for free throughout Drexel's main campus and at various local businesses. Current circulation of the paper is around 5600 copies, although with the acquisition of new bins and distribution points, the paper hopes to increase readership. Combined with the 2007 redesign, the new distribution strategies should help shoot up paper readership and increase circulation. The paper can also be accessed for free online. The Triangle's website offers e-mail subscriptions to the electronic issue, as well as web-only features and breaking news. The paper operates by selling advertisement space, both online and in print, and also offers subscriptions for $50 per year.
Notable former columnists include Chuck Barris, creator of The Gong Show and subject of the movie Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
