The Topkapi Affair is an upcoming film based on Eric Ambler's novel The Light of Day and its film adaptation Topkapi.[1] The film, to star Pierce Brosnan, is a sequel to the successful heist film The Thomas Crown Affair.

Like The Thomas Crown Affair, The Topkapi Affair is to be produced by Brosnan's own production company, Irish DreamTime.

[edit] Production

The film has been in production since 2002, when Pierce Brosnan was rumoured to be leaving the James Bond role. That year, Variety reported that the film's script was to be written by Harley Peyton.[2] In 2005, during a press conference for the then-upcoming The Matador, Brosnan announced that the script was being written at that time and the film was planned to be filmed in Istanbul.[3]

Reports continued throughout 2005 and into 2006. In January, 2007, Brosnan confirmed that the script had been completed and they were now ready to shoot the film. In the same report, he also reported that Rene Russo, the female lead from 1999's The Thomas Crown Affair, would not be appearing and instead, a new actress would be cast.[4] ComingSoon.net reported this month that MGM chairman, Harry Sloan, has given the greenlight to the project. He added, "Pierce still looks good in a tux,"[5]
