[edit] Plot

Emily is upset when Richard's mother Trix announces that she's coming to visit. Trix is extremely critical of Emily, but she seems to like Rory and Lorelai. When she hears that Richard and Emily are loaning Lorelai money for Rory's education, she suggests that she gives Rory her trust fund now so that Rory can pay for Chilton.

Emily is upset with Trix's offer because she is afraid of losing Lorelai and Rory. She tries to get Lorelai to refuse Trix's offer, planting doubts in Lorelai's mind about what the money would do to her relationship with Rory. She and Emily wind up arguing about the money during tea with Trix. Their loud argument disgusts Trix, who withdraws her offer based on Emily and Lorelai's lack of maturity.

Rory and Tristan deal with the aftermath of their kiss. Rory suggests that Tristan should date someone more serious than his normal choice of girlfriends, such as Paris. He follows her advice and goes on a date with Paris. Paris is nervous and gets Rory to help her prepare. After the date, she is thrilled until Tristan tells her that they should just be friends. She blames Rory after Tristan lets it slip that he asked her out on Rory's advice. When Rory confronts Tristan, he tells implies that he likes Rory, not Paris.
