The Tattoist is a upcoming New Zealand film directed by Peter Burger and starring American actor Jason Behr and New Zealand actors Nathaniel Lees, Michael Hurst and Robbie Magasiva among others. The film is the first in a series of official co-productions between New Zealand and Singapore[1]with an expected release date of August 2007.[2]
Principal photography commenced on September 16, 2006 in Auckland, New Zealand. [3]The film already has guaranteed distribution in Australia and New Zealand through Buena Vista International. At present there is no deal to release the film in North America.
The film is described as a supernatural thriller in which American tattoo artist Jake Sawyer (Behr) is a global wanderer who explores ethnic themes in his designs. While he is in New Zealand he unknowingly plays a role in releasing a deadly spirit as he attempts to learn tatau, the Samoan tradition of tattooing.
