The Swimming Pool Library

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swimming Pool Library is a 1988 novel by Alan Hollinghurst.

Set in 1983, before the onset of AIDS changed the gay lifestyle, the novel is a celebration of sexual liberation and human diversity in London. Sexual potential lingers behind many of the city spaces that the book's first person narrator, Will (25 y.o., old Wykehamist) after an encounter with Lord Nantwich (83 y.o., old Wykehamist) describes, from Hyde Park to the Russell Square Hotel. It is a richly descriptive and often comic work.
