The Sun Hill Fire (2005) was a storyline in the long-running ITV drama The Bill. The storyline attracted some of the highest ratings in the show's history.

In 2005 a controversial civillian member of staff, PCSO Colin Fairfax, was removed from his position for holding racist views. He retaliated by handcuffing DC Ken Drummond in the back of a van filled with petrol cans and drove it into the station.

Long-standing character PC Reg Hollis telephoned his girlfriend Marilyn Chambers with the intention of proposing to her. The subsequent spark triggered an explosion which ripped through the station. Two officers perished in the station and a third member of staff died in hospital.

The episode concluded two storylines: Reg's relationship with Marilyn and the machinations of journalist Andrea Dunbar who was posing as a PC. Dunbar had discovered the true nature of PC Gabriel Kent and had accumlated enough evidence to expose him. Kent however confronted her and held her hostage in the store-room. As the fire grew she promised to destroy all her evidence and keep quiet about Kent, he was not prepared to take the risk however and left her die in the fire.

Meanwhile, an oblivious Hollis was sending Chambers innumberable voice-mail messages. Eventually he discovered the truth and rushed to be at her bed-side. He slipped the engagement ring onto her fingers moments before she died.

DC Drummond was killed instantaneously by the explosion. His body was later recovered.
