"The Stray Dog" (「野良犬は逃げ出した」 Nora Inu wa Nigedashita?, The Stray Dog Ran Away) is episode 43 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2004-07-31.
A complete stranger tries to strike up a conversation upon the arrival of Winry and Sheska in Risembool. Pinako introduces him to Winry as Edward and Alphonse's father, Hohenheim of Light. Colonel Mustang is forced to hunt down the Elric brothers when the Führer (Pride) orders their capture dead or alive, claiming that they are in league with the Homunculi. On the run, Ed and Al accidentally touch, giving them both a momentary vision of the Gate. Ed realizes that if Al is now the Philosopher's Stone, he could inadvertently be used up by acts of alchemy. They dare not touch each other. They set out for home because Ed needs to get something that will be of use in battling the Homunculi. Colonel Mustang's party intercepts the Elrics in the forest near Resembool. He's not planning to give them to the Führer; he's just "pissed" that Ed and Al didn't trust him enough to ask for his help.
