"The Stranger" is a 1977 title track single released on Billy Joel's fifth album.
The song had played frequently at Japanese nightclubs in late 1970s, and received absolute reputation among Japanese people. It was released as a single paired with "Movin' Out" exclusively in Japan, and peaked at #2 on the Oricon, Japanese official hit parade. Success of this song made him one of the most successful non-Japanese artists at the Japanese music industry. In there, his popularity has kept constantly, and all of his non-compilation albums since same-titled LP have ever marked top 10 on the Oricon album chart.
