When InuYasha's gang arrive at a village the group is separated and Shippo saves a young girl bullied by boys, who fled in Shippo's transfomation. The girl introduces that she is Satsuki and shares the stolen food with Shippo as a form of gratitude. She reveals to him that her brother had left to fight in a war with a promise to return to her. He gave her a Shikon shard - which Kagome strangely did not sense- before he left, and she wishes with it daily to bring him back to life. She is convinced that even with the story of his death, he will return.

Miroku chases a lizard demon out of the richest mansion of the village. The owner of the house grants a stay as gratitude, at which Shippo arrives and introduces Satsuki. Kagome inspects only to tell everyone that the shard was a stone flower. Satsuki, not knowing, leaves in worry as the owner of the mansion tells everyone her story.

Shippo is blinded by his desire to help Satsuki. He steals the group's Shikon shards, in vain as Inuyasha catches him. He warns that the jewel could endanger humans, mocking Shippo after the discovery of Miroku that he is in love. Shippo objects of Inuyasha's own two-timing, and with a strike he is left to sleep.

The next day, Satsuki is overjoyed when she sees her brother return to her. At Shippo's visit to a farewell, she rushes to tell him. When Shippo comes to her house in suspicion, he discovers that the brother in fact a lizard demon in disguise, who reveals himself with a intention to haggle Shippo to bring the real jewel or else Satsuki's death is at stake.

However, Shippo distract the demon with his fox magic and sends Satsuki away as the demon breaks free of the illusion, destroys Satsuki's home, and chases after Shippo. Back at the manor, Kagome and the others decide to collect Shippo from his visit to Satsuki only to discover the truth from Satsuki. Shippo, who was fighting the demon, is saved by Inuyasha who punches the demon in annoyance as he find out that his Backlash Wave is disabled by the demon's weakness. As Satsuki and the others arrive, Inuyasha relates in pretence Shippo's heroic deeds before Inuyasha could do anything.

Satsuki, come to terms to live with the owner of the manor as suggested before, but one she never allowed to live in the old house to wait for her brother, but now that she realises the truth. Inuyasha and the others leave the village, Shippo lingering at the last moment to Kagome's indication that Satsuki was his "first love".
