The State of Things (radio show)

The State of Things is a radio talk show produced by North Carolina Public Radio. The show airs live at 12 noon Eastern time Monday through Friday, and is rebroadcast Monday through Thursday at 9 PM. Hosted by Frank Stasio since June 2006, the show uses a call-in format and concentrates on topics of local or regional interest. Some recent examples (as of January 10, 2007) include:
- Discussion with journalists from around the state regarding the reactions of residents of Fayetteville (home of Fort Bragg) to news of expected troop increases in Iraq, as well as the impending departure of Sugar Hill Records from Durham.
- An interview with Cary writer Sharon O’Donnell about her new book, House of Testosterone.
- Discussion of a new class offered to local university students, examining the impact of race on the history, art, politics, and music of The South.
- A review of two recent medical journal articles from North Carolina researchers, including a Wake Forest University study on amniotic stem cells that received national attention.
The show accepts both telephone calls and emails during the live broadcast. In addition, listeners are encouraged to submit ideas for future stories.
