The Star of Star Newspapers is a twice weekly regional newspaper serving the southern Chicago suburbs. The newspaper covers news in Chicago Heights, Crete, University Park, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Matteson, Richton Park, Frankfort, Mokena, and New Lenox, among a handful of other souther suburbs. Generally, its circulation area extends from the Illinois-Indiana state line on the East to New Lenox on the West. Its coverage area goes as far North as Worth Township and as far South as Beecher. The Star is the sister paper of the Daily Southtown and is owned by the Sun-Times Media Group.

Patrick Ferrell, who created the Special Projects Reporter position at the newspaper, worked at The Star from 2001 until 2006, before moving on to a reporting position at The Herald News, a daily newspaper also in the Sun-Times News Group, owned by the Sun-Times media group.
