[edit] History

They named the band "The Soviettes" when Annie (guitar), was serving coffee in a previous job, when one of the customers suggested "Your band should be called the Soviettes." 1

In 2003, The Soviettes released the first LP entitled LP on Adeline Records of Oakland, California. The album's sound was described as "fuzzy, punky, stripped, and ballsy."

In 2004, the band released their second LP entitled LP II, again on Adeline Records. LP II was described as having "more bratty, fast-action" songs. The band was then noticed by Fat Wreck Chords in San Francisco, California and was shortly after signed with the label. The band released the song "Paranoia! Cha-Cha-Cha" for the Fat Wreck Chords compilation album Rock Against Bush, Vol. 1.

On June 28, 2005, the band's third LP entitled LP III was released on Fat Wreck Chords.

Beginning on September 9, 2005 and ending December 7, 2005, The Soviettes toured with Against Me!, The Epoxies, and Smoke or Fire on their first tour under the Fat Wreck Chords label. The tour took them from New Haven, Connecticut across the United States, and had been planned to end in Toronto, Ontario, but unfornunatly the bands had to cut the tour short and never made it to Canada. All four bands involved in the tour were at every show, except the Honolulu, Hawaii show, in which The Epoxies did not attend.

On November 15, 2005, LP was re-released by Crustacean Records. The reissue features 12-inch black vinyl.

As of April 30, 2006, no additional tour dates have been posted on the band's official website. Sample songs from many of The Soviettes's releases (both EPs and LPs) are available for download at The Soviettes' official web site. There are also three music videos available for download: "Multiply and Divide" (from LP III), "Tonight" (from LP II), and "The Land of Clear Blue Radio" (from LP).

The Soviettes' website has been down since July 2006. They are currently taking a break (9/25/06). The Soviettes bass player, Susy has moved to California. In the meantime, Annie and Danny have started a band called Awesome Snakes, and Sturgeon has started a band called Gateway District. Both bands can be found on MySpace.
