The Soul Sessions is the debut album by English soul singer Joss Stone, released in 2003 (see 2003 in music). It is a collection of cover versions of old soul songs and a cover of a modern artist, re-arranged into a soul song.

This album has been released with the Copy Control protection system in some regions.

[edit] Making of The Soul Sessions

The Soul Sessions was produced by Miami soul singer Betty Wright and S-Curve Records CEO Steve Greenberg. She worked with veteran Miami soul musicians Benny Lattimore, Little Beaver, Timmy Thomas, and Wright herself. She also worked with contemporary musicians such as neo soul singer Angie Stone and hip-hop group The Roots.

Joss Stone told MTV News that she felt intimidated by the credentials of the musicians that worked on the album. "It was weird because they've worked with so many great, great singers I'm talking the best. I kind of walked in, just like this little girl and started singing". By the end of the session, she had impressed everybody with her talent.

"Fell in Love with a Boy" was the lead single. "Fell in Love with a Boy" and The Soul Sessions have both made the British charts with The Soul Sessions spending five weeks on the British top twenty as of the end of February 2004. It reached number one on the Billboard Top Heatseekers, thirty-nine on the Billboard 200, and thirty-eight on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It also debuted at number thirty-five in Australia.

The album has sold over four million copies worldwide to date. It was also the UK's nineteenth best seller of 2004.
