[edit] Appearances
The character of the Snowman has appeared both in season 1's The Snowman Cometh and season 3's Snowman's Revenge. In the Snowman's Cometh it is clear that he should be pitied, although his history is somewhat unclear. A lot more about his past is revealed in his second appearance, the Snowman's Revenge.
[edit] The Snowman Cometh
In the Snowman's first appearance, the Bagges are taking a holiday in the North Pole, where Courage finds the Snowman spying on them. The Snowman disappears after a while and Courage follows his tracks to find the Snowman's secret hideout. He finds out that all the Snowman's friends melted away because of the temperatures rising, and that the Snowman will soon melt too. The Snowman has found a way to avoid this, and Courage learns he plans to steal a certain human fluid that prevents them from melting like a snowman, and he will take this from Eustace and Muriel. Courage returns to warn them, but the Snowman gets there first and kidnaps them both. He succeeds in stealing Eustace's fluid, but a precious drop of that is lost thanks to Courage. Courage frees Eustace and Muriel and slides down with them on a steep snow slope. The Snowman pursues them, but falls into a freezing cold lake, where he is trapped in a block of ice. Although the Snowman was not actually seen to die, this was, at the time, assumed to be his defeat.
[edit] Snowman's Revenge
It became apparent in the episode 'Snowman's Revenge' that the Snowman did indeed escape and survive the ice block. With the North Pole melted away, the Snowman seeks to build a new home, calling it the West Pole, with a new freezing device which he calls Coldfinger. He selects the Bagge farm to turn into the West Pole and freezes everything there, making Eustace, Muriel and Courage his slaves. Over time he begins to develop a likeness for the Bagges and states that he thinks of them as family now that they have been with him for so long, and describes them as his fellow Snowpeople. He then reveals his past to Courage, saying that he was initially happy with all his Snow friends, until man-made flying machines broke a hole in the Ozone layer, unleashing an intense heat on the snow, melting all the Snowpeople except for the Snowman himself, who somehow managed to survive. This explained the Snowman's origin and his turn to a life of villainy. Courage gets a sudden idea, and takes a plane to the Snowman's former home, where he repairs the hole in the Ozone layer and resurrects all the Snowman's friends. He returns to the Bagge farmhouse with the Snowman's girlfriend and the Snowman happily leaves with her.
[edit] Romantic life
It is implied that the Snowman had a romantic relationship with the Snowgirl Evanna as he has shown infatuation for her, making it seem as though she was the one he missed the most out of all his melted friends, and has many times given implications that he is attracted to her. When she is brought back to life thanks to Courage, the two leave together in a very romantic fashion, making it very likely that she is either his girlfriend or his wife.
