The Snapper (1990) is a novel by Irish writer Roddy Doyle and the second novel in The Barrytown Trilogy.

The story tells of young Sharon Rabbitte being impregnanted by a friend's father. Sharon decides to keep the "snapper" (as the baby is called) and refuses to reveal the identity of the begetter.

The story was made into a film of the same title in 1993. It was directed by Stephen Frears.It starred Colm Meaney as the father of Sharon Curley who is played by Tina Kellegher. Shannon becomes pregnant and refuses to tell who the father is. She soon becomes the talk of Barrytown.
