The Slaves of the Mastery

Slaves of the Mastery is the second book in the Wind On Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. It picks up the story of twins Kestrel and Bowman five years on from the closing chapter of The Wind Singer. It was first published in 2001.
Set five years after the series of events in The Wind Singer, this is the second part of the Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. When the soldiers of a land called The Mastery strike, Aramanth is burned, and all of its residents, excepting Kestrel Hath, are taken as prisoners to the Mastery, where they are forced to do slave labour. The Mastery is supervised by The Master, a man who uses mind power to control all the inhabitants of his country.Many of the Manth people begin to enjoy their new lives.
Kestrel is found by the beautiful Princess Sisi of Obagang, who is also travelling to the Mastery to marry Captain Marius Semeon Ortiz, the man who led the attack on Aramanth. However, when both suitors fall for different people, disaster occurs within the Mastery. Bowman Hath is taught to use his mind in the same way as the Master, in order to overthrow him and set the slaves free.

About the Author:
William Nicholson lives in Sussex with his wife and their three children. He is famous for making documentary films and writing television plays. These included Shadowlands, Life Story, Sweet as you are, The March. He also wote stage plays ; Shadowlands, Map of the Heart, Katherine Howard, The Retreat from Moscow. His films include Shadowlands, Sarafina, Nell, First Knight, Firelight and Gladiator. For his screenplay for the film Shadowlands, (based on the lives of C.S.Lewis and Joy Davidman) he was nominated for a BAFTA award.
