The Shivers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Shivers are a band that reformed in 2001 in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States and were formed by Englishman, Royston Lloyd. The band played their first show in January of 2002. Currently, they are known as purveyors of 60s influenced garage-freakbeat-rock music. The Shivers were inspired by many bands of the 60s and 70s, such as The Small Faces, The Pretty Things, The Sorrows, ? and the Mysterians, The Action and The Buzzcocks. However, in their earliest incarnation they had leanings that were more of the brit-pop variety. Known in the midwest of the USA as a band that performs catchy, exciting songs with much exuberance.
Royston actually formed the original incarnation of the band at the age of 9 (1981) with Brian Campbell (guitars and vocals) and Craig Wilson (drums). The band consisting of three ten year old children actually performed their first show at Beech Hall Methodist Church in Macclesfield, England. The show was recorded on cassette tape and photographs were taken. Although they were essentially a child band, they did write songs and performed in a live setting. Their drummer has a clearly marked "the shivers" logo and design on the bass (kick drum).
The 2001 lineup consisted of:
- Shaun Delaney - vocals & guitars
- Michael Daubs - drums
- Royston Lloyd - vocals & guitars
- Dave Lawlis - bass
The Shivers have had their share of lineup changes and genre shifts with the current lineup being:
- Mike Shimmercore - guitars & vocals
- Dave Lawlis - bass & vocals
- Royston Lloyd - guitars & vocals
- Mico Theodore - drums
They have toured throughout the midwest of the USA and even opened for The Yardbirds on their 2003 American tour. They also opened for The Soundtrack of Our Lives in 2005. Currently, they are playing select dates in the mid-west area and are working on their second album.
The Shivers went to the finals of the 2004 Benchmark Records Battle of the Bands in which 192 bands competed, The Shivers eventually took sixth place overall.
