The Secret Life of Rosewood Avenue
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Written by Stephen Sheridan, The Secret Life of Rosewood Avenue was a comedy series first broadcast on BBC Radio Four in 1991. It starred James Grout, Margaret Courtenay and Jean Heywood and was produced by Lissa Evans. It concerned the Reverend Timothy Carswell, a timid vicar who discovers that his apparently respectable new parish is a hotbed of murder, passion and geriatric prostitution.
Largely forgotten today it was, perhaps, a little ahead of its time. Its mixture of grotesque characterisation and suburban gothic would later find more favour in the radio and television series of The League of Gentlemen, which it preceded by several years.
BBC7 began repeating the series at 2.30 pm on Friday 30 June 2006 and repeated it again at the same time from Thursday 8th February 2007.
