[edit] Summary
After being rejected by Yumi, William makes it his mission to find out the secret she's hiding. Soon enough, he manages to follow Ulrich and Odd to the factory and learns about Lyoko and Xana. As it turns out, his help is going to be quite useful when a possessed demolition worker sets several bombs in the factory.
[edit] Recap
It's late at night and Yumi is woken up by a call from Jeremie, who informs her that Xana is attacking. After getting dressed and going outside, she is knocked over by William. William explains that he had snuck out of school to catch a movie. In a hurry, Yumi tries to brush William off. He's persistent, however, and blocks her path. After Yumi insists on leaving, he asks for a kiss. she tells him to close his eyes, then runs off in the opposite direction. By the time Yumi reaches the factory, the tower has already been deactivated.
The next day, Jim is taking role for the ninth grade's trip to the pool. William confronts Yumi about being left high and dry the previous night, and she angrily tells him to stop bothering her all the time. Jim, who was calling William's name during the exchange, yells it once more to make sure he's being heard. William yells back that he's not deaf, and that Jim should be able to see him. Angrily, Jim sends him to the library (2 hours of detention) for the outburst. Before leaving, William promises Yumi that he'll find out what her secret is.
In the quad, Jeremie is going over his World War I history report, which he and Aelita are doing as a team. She's sure they'll get a good grade. Odd is reading the gossip column of the school newspaper, even though he doesn't recognize the names. Xana activates a tower after Odd reads one of the entries. Since Aelita and Jeremie can't avoid giving their report, Jeremie has Odd and Ulrich go to the factory alone. They're unable to contact Yumi, who doesn't have her phone on her since she's at the pool.
In the park, William is mulling over Yumi rejecting him when he catches Odd and Ulrich entering the sewer. Hiding himself so they don't notice, he decides to follow them.
In history class, Aelita and Jeremie set up their report. Trying to be quick about it, they ask to start right away. Master Fumet asks where Odd and Ulrich are, slowing them down, so Jeremie claims they're setting up a surprise presentation in his honor. Aelita and Jeremie run through the report as fast as possible, making it almost impossible for the class to keep up. They then ask to go to the infirmary, complaining of a headache. The teacher lets them, since he feels about the same way after their speedy report.
On their way to the factory, Odd and Ulrich are trailed by William. He watches them from a distance as they enter the elevator. After Aelita and Jeremie make their way to the factory, William ducks into the elevator just as they close the door. They're forced to take him into the lab, much to Ulrich's annoyance. Jeremie insists that they can just use a return trip to wipe William's memories once the tower is deactivated. They're still unable to contact Yumi, so William offers to get her for them. After he leaves, Ulrich wonders if he'll tell the police about the supercomputer. Odd is sure he won't. Outside the factory, just after William passes over the bridge, a Xana-possessed demolition worker walks up, carrying a pouch full of dynamite.
At the pool, William arrives to collect Yumi, shouting out word of the Xana attack with no regard for the fact that it's supposed to be a secret. Jim sends him to the headmaster's office, and Yumi offers to escort him so he won't run away.
On Lyoko, Aelita, Odd, and Ulrich arrive in the Ice Barrier Sector within view of the tower. As they head off on their vehicles, a large group of Kankrelats attack them. Aelita begins destroying them one by one. Ulrich tries to take off on his Overbike and fly above them, but two Kankrelats jump on his vehicle and drag it back to the ground. Ulrich smashes them into various walls to knock them off. Because the Kankrelats can manage to keep up with the vehicles, Ulrich has Aelita jump to his Overbike so she can use both hands to attack. After destroying a few more, she jumps back to Odd's Overboard.
In the factory, the demolition worker finishes setting up his charges. He then pulls out a detonator and sets it for ten minutes.
Still avoiding the remaining four Kankrelats, Ulrich and Odd decide to take different routes to avoid their enemies. Ulrich takes a small bridge while Odd goes through a tunnel. The Kankrelats split up in pursuit. Even in the slippery tunnel, the Kankrelats manage to move faster than Odd's Overboard, which he complains about. One Kankrelat destroys another during the short ride, and Odd destroys the other as it exits the tunnel. Ulrich destroys his two pursuers by slashing both when they try to jump on him.
On their way to the factory, William wonders what all the stuff in the factory is for while Yumi wonders why the others trusted him in the first place. William insists that they just trust him, but Yumi cuts him off by calling Jeremie on her cell phone. Jeremie explains that Odd and Ulrich are almost at the tower, and she's annoyed that she missed the chance to help once again. William points out the demolition worker, who is blocking the factory entrance, and asks if he's with them. Yumi says it's the opposite, then tells Jeremie about the possessed person. William is not convinced that the worker is a threat, but quickly becomes convinced when the man punches a hole in the road deck. Neither William nor Yumi can put up much of a fight against the possessed human, so Jeremie tells his friends to hurry.
On Lyoko, Aelita, Odd, and Ulrich find two Bloks guarding the tower. Ulrich offers to take care of the Bloks, but one simply blasts him with a fire ring, devirtualizing him. Odd manages to avoid the same fate, dodging on his Overboard while Aelita runs for the tower. One Blok tries to freeze Odd, but freezes its companion instead. Odd uses the frozen Blok as shield, but the other Blok just prepares to fire through it. Odd jumps and fires at the same time it does, destroying it and getting himself devirtualized at the same time. Aelita deactivates the tower just as the demolition worker prepares to finish off William and Yumi, who are dangling over the river and holding onto the bridge's guardrails.
Calling Jermeie, Yumi tells him to activate a return trip to get rid of William. William notes the bomb logo on the demolition worker's uniform, identifying him as an employee of the ExploBat Corporation, a demolition service. This would be erased by the return trip, too, but the Scyphozoa catches Aelita during their conversation. Not wanting to endanger Aelita, Jeremie can't run the return trip. Since no one is on Lyoko to stop the Scyphozoa, it has no trouble passing a virus to Aelita. Jeremie sends Yumi to Lyoko to stop Aelita while Odd and Ulrich search for the bombs with William.
Yumi arrives on Lyoko just as Aelita begins running for the passage tower. Jeremie materializes the Overwing so Yumi can catch up, but a Megatank arrives to keep the Xana-possessed Aelita safe.
In the factory, Odd finds one of the charges. William says that finding the charges doesn't matter, since the detonator is what sets them off. When questioned about his knowledge of explosives, William says that he learned it from his uncle, who worked in construction. Not knowing where the detonator is, William suggests asking the demolition worker.
Odd slaps the worker awake. The formerly possessed man he remembers nothing and asks where he is and where his dynamite has gone. He does give Odd an idea of where he would put the detonator, however, allowing Ulrich to locate it.
On Lyoko, Aelita and the Megatank move into narrow canyon leading to the tower. Yumi follows, dodging the Megatanks shots as it follows Aelita. She manages to destroy it by throwing her fans high in the air so it can't see them coming. However, its final shot destroys her Overwing.
In the factory, Ulrich recommends evacuating since the bombs will go off soon. Jeremie's not willing to abandon Aelita and Yumi, so he says no. William knows how to disarm the bombs, but admits that he only heard it explained once. Regardless, he is confident that he can do so.
Catching up to Aelita, Yumi attempts to devirtualize her while Aelita tries to do the same. Neither are very successful at first, but Aelita manages to get the upperhand eventually. Unfortunately for Xana, Yumi's last fan toss devirtualizes Aelita just as she's about to reach the tower.
In the factory, William manages to successfully short out the detonator with just a few seconds to spare. It harmlessly counts down to zero, much to his surprise. With the bomb disarmed, William tries to become part of the team. Everyone seems open to the idea, so Jeremie puts it up to a vote. If everyone agrees, they'll let him join. There's one "no" vote, which William assumes is from Ulrich, and Jeremie activates a return trip to wipe his memory.
In the dorms, Odd also thinks that Ulrich voted against William. Ulrich denies it, saying that, despite his dislike of William, he recognizes William's potential as an ally. Even as the two realize who the dissenting vote had to have belonged to, Yumi watches William from her home, apologizing to him even though he cannot hear her, but adding that she simply does not believe he can be trusted.
[edit] Trivia
[edit] Cinematic notes
- The Kankrelats should not be able to keep up with the vehicles, the Megatanks being the only monsters that can.
- The Kankrelat gang, when seen for the second time, has not shrunk in size.
- Generally, a single hit from Aelita's energy field will destroy or devirtualize anything in one hit, as do Yumi's fans, but both take two hits each before being devirtualized.
[edit] Character notes
- William reveals that his uncle worked for a demolition company, and he learned how to disarm bombs from him.
